The boot is the mandatory stake each player puts in before cards are dealt. It seeds the pot and sets the minimum level everyone commits to at the start of each round.

A blind player bets without looking at their cards. The bet amount is capped at the current stake, and playing blind keeps the table stake lower than a seen player's minimum call.
